1969 – Sightings of a mysterious, intensely-lit flying object in Hawk Inlet in mid-December were reported by Ken Marlowe, operator of the 97-ft. cargo vessel Teel. In both cases the object, described as ball-shaped and estimated to be about 20 feet in diameter and was active in the area for about three hours December 15. The next day, in a snow storm, the object reappeared above the boat as it was docking at the Hawk Inlet cannery. Marlowe contacted the marine radio operator to report the phemonena, but the boat’s power suddenly shut off unexplainably and he and his mate Ralph Kern reported feeling extremely tired and depressed. Switching to auxiliary batteries failed to restore power, but after about 15 minutes, the object moved away from the boat and the diesel engine came back to life and battery power was restored. They have not seen the object since then, but other reports have surfaced from two other pilots that have reported similar sightings in the general area. Federal authorities have no explanations for the reports. Southeast Alaska Empire – 01/04/1969
