Juneau History

This section is devoted to presenting various aspects of Juneau area history.  Currently we have a new booklet just out Rough and Tumble Country: Juneau’s Origins as Alaska’s First Gold Mining Boomtown as Described by Eyewitnesses, 1880-1881 presented below, Juneau Then and Now photo gallery, which contrasts historic photographs with modern days views taken from approximate locations of the originals, and This Day in Juneau History page which presents a calendar with news items over the years corresponding to each calendar date.  A chronological timeline by year is currently in development to be posted when finished.  Other pages providing additional history articles will be offered as they are developed.  Perhaps you have a story or other material of old Juneau to share or would be interested in helping our research and writing – let us know with our contact form.
