1932 – The official inquiry into Juneau’s first bank hold-up ended today when a coroner’s jury, convened by U. S. Commissioner Charles Sey, found that the killing of [bank robber] William A. Mcghee was justified. This was Juneau’s first bank hold-up and is believed to have been only the second one in Alaska, the first having occurred at Anchorage several years ago.

1936 – The Juneau Chamber of Commerce reported that it would be easy to tunnel from Seward Street to Evergreen Bowl for quick access by school children.   Juneau 1980 Centennial Calendar

1967 – In an historic milestone for 32-year old Alaska Coastal Airlines, their new unique twin-engine turbo-prop Gruman Goose amphibian aircraft entered service here today after receiving its certification from the FAA. The achievement culminated an 18 month conversion effort costing several hundred thousand dollars, involving specialized engineering, conversion, and testing before its approval.  Each engine weighs about one third the standard piston engines, cruising speed is over 40% higher, its useful load is about 74% greater, and it provides safer operation with optional instrument navigation.
